About the Planetarium

The M. D. Anderson Planetarium is located on the campus of Lambuth University in the J. R. Hyde Science Hall on Maple Street. The newly-updated facility features a Digitarium Alpha 2+ digital star projector, which generates images of up to 200,000 stars, hundreds of galaxies, and numerous nebulae on our 30-foot dome. The new projector runs a modified version of the open-source program Stellarium, which is available for use on your home computer (in Linux, Macintosh, and Windows versions).
The Planetarium was built in 1967 as part of the then-new science building. It was rededicated in 1973 though a generous grant by the M. D. Anderson Foundation. Most of the programs through the years were developed by Dr. Ronnie Barnes, who directed the planetarium from 1975 through 2007.
